Hello everyone, I’m Văn Như. Today, I will share a few of my experiences for those who are just starting out as freelancers.
First, we need to understand that a freelancer, also known as a self-employed worker, is someone who gets paid to perform tasks for clients or project owners without being tied to specific working hours or locations. True to the "free" nature of the job, freelancing allows individuals to work for multiple employers at the same time, as long as they meet the project deadlines.
What kinds of jobs do freelancers do? There are many different types of freelance work, depending on your expertise and interests. Below are some of the most popular freelance jobs:
Writing: Writing involves using written language to express ideas, emotions, information, or tell stories, with various purposes and forms. You can take on projects creating content for websites, writing product descriptions for online stores, or crafting posts for social media platforms like Facebook. You can also try writing articles for newspapers and magazines on topics you love or have expertise in. To write well, you need language skills, the ability to organize ideas, and go through the process of brainstorming, writing, and editing. Each person has their own writing style. Writing is both a communication skill, an art, and a tool of influence.
Translation: If you are fluent in a language other than Vietnamese, such as English, Chinese, or others, you can take on translation projects, whether for written documents or films. Also, don’t forget to improve your Vietnamese vocabulary. A translator needs specialized knowledge and experience to ensure that the translation is accurate and culturally appropriate for the target language. Translation includes both written translation (translation of texts) and interpretation (spoken translation). For this job, I recommend that you study hard so you can earn good money. This is a job that I believe has the most potential.
Graphic Design: If you have a creative mind, this is the job for you. This work not only requires proficiency in certain software and tools but also creativity to meet clients' needs. In this field, you can take on projects such as designing logos for companies, creating PowerPoint presentations, or being responsible for the visual aspects of advertisements in newspapers, magazines (images, charts, logos, websites, apps, etc.).
Programming: Working in this field, you will be tasked with programming websites, designing mobile applications, or developing software. You can also offer services such as search engine optimization (SEO), database management, or analysis. Having basic knowledge of programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Python, and PHP is essential for a freelance programmer. This job truly requires hardworking and educated individuals, and it comes with a very high salary.
I have listed a few popular freelance jobs today. There are many other freelance opportunities that require specific skills and knowledge. With the advancement of technology, there’s a growing demand for people with expertise. If you don't strive to improve, you will be left behind. I believe you will work hard, learn, and become a valuable person. Keep going!
