1. Lack of personal time management skills - Time is seen as something useless.
It's fine if it's done today, or tomorrow. I slept late this morning, I can work in the afternoon. In the afternoon, I have to make a to-do list first, and once it's done, I reward myself by scrolling through TikTok ???? It's fine to work at night too... (you confidently think this) Then, after working for half an hour, your boyfriend invites you out. You hesitate for a while, then decide to put it off until tomorrow. "Anyway, I'll finish it, the deadline isn't until tomorrow afternoon."
And then,
The next morning, you have to wake up early, Frantically open your laptop to continue the unfinished work from the previous day, with a head full of stress. You keep working on the things left undone - trying to work while catching your breath.Once you're done, you have to check it,
...then after checking, you have to fix it
...and then read it all over again.
DOES IT FEEL FAMILIAR TO YOU
If you had woken up earlier, you would have had more time to make your to-do list.
If you had taken only 10 minutes to rest in the afternoon, you would have had much more time to work. If you had finished your tasks in the afternoon, you could have had a fun, worry-free evening without thinking about the deadline. And "tomorrow morning," you could have slept soundly without the stress of work (and still woke up early).
Of course, if you became aware of this sooner and addressed it early on, you would still have a good life.
And - of course, if you continue to disregard your own time, you will pay the price in the quality of your work. Even in money (your salary).
2. Lack of focus at work - Easier said than done.
For freelancers, time is endless. But for freelancers, time is also extremely valuable. If you can manage your time well, you'll experience both. However, to do a good job as a freelancer, optimizing time alone is not enough.
You need to have a work speed that is fast and sustainable. You can be fast if you have experience with the tasks or projects you've worked on before. You can be even faster if you have your own working process. You can be faster, even more so, if you can focus completely on your work. And especially, if you're a beginner, focus is something essential.
And FOCUS is something absolutely necessary for everyone, whether you have experience or not. To be able to focus to the maximum, you should do the following:
- Minimize to the maximum - the tasks that need to be done.
This will save you from distractions and nerve hormones. And you'll have more energy for each task or work item. Secondly, you will know exactly the progress of your work. How long you'll work, when it will be finished, and you won’t lose focus or extend the time.
- The environment should not be too noisy.
I used to work from home while the house across the street was holding a funeral. There was a funeral during the day, and at night, they even sang karaoke??? And that made it impossible for me to focus. I had to go to a café far enough away to continue working.
Actually,
Your environment can be a bit noisy, with some conversations here and there.. but you can still work well if you focus intensely. But if it's as noisy as my situation, it's better to change locations!
- During the process, minimize actions or tasks that are unrelated.
For example, if you're working with focus and need a break, but you go outside to smoke!
That shouldn't be the case because smoking takes up quite a bit of time. Maybe smoking will refresh you after an hour of intense work, but if you still have tasks waiting for you, your ability to concentrate will decrease significantly. And similarly to smoking, it's like watching videos on YouTube or TikTok.
It will reduce your focus just like after a break. What you should do during a break is stand up, move around, and drink some water. This way, you'll maintain maximum focus after the break. And more importantly, you'll protect your health in the healthiest way possible.
And make sure your break lasts only 5-10 minutes, to avoid your brain going into sleep mode. And these are the two main reasons why freelancers are always late.
If you make these mistakes, adjust yourself to have a fulfilling freelance career and a healthy life as you wish.
Thank you.
